Beginner Poker Mistakes

When first learning how to play poker, most beginners make the same errors, common mistakes that have become a rite of passage amongst players. Players who can avoid making these mistakes, however, can pass an unpleasant learning stage in the game. After all, mistakes don’t need to be experienced to be understood and learned from. By simply studying the mistakes, smart players can learn to avoid these poker roadblocks.

Mistake # 1: Investing too Soon

New poker players are naturally interested in investing in their new hobby. It is unwise, however, to invest too soon. Free online poker games help players understand the game’s rules through experience, while preventing them from making costly learning errors in real-money games.

Mistake # 2: Not Enough Folding

In the beginning, many players are keen to play as many hands as possible. This, however, is not the brightest strategy. For starters, playing each hand means calling the minimum bet to see the Flop. This is likely to be a costly risk without benefit. Instead, new poker players should try folding on weak hands. It’s a great way to stay in a game that requires surviving to be the last player at the table.

Mistake # 3: Losing One’s Cool

Both internet and casino poker require players to keep their cool throughout the game. When a player lets a mistake upset him, he can no longer use objective judgment in the game. Emotional players cannot read signals, apply strategies, or bluff well because their emotions interfere.
