Play blackjack and know the card games’ history

Knowing a bit about blackjack history can be a great way to take pride in the game you play. Blackjack, also known as the game pontoon, originated in France. The game was originally called vingt et un, which in French, is the number twenty-one, or 21 as we call it today. As far back as the 1700's, players could play blackjack in French casinos. With time, the game was carried over to America and played in American casinos. At first, however, folks did not take to the game like they had other games. Consequently, casino owners needed to offer an incentive, so as to get people interested in the game. They decided to change to odds of the winning, and when a player held a black Jack in his hand, he would receive an incentive. The name stuck and when players play blackjack today -although they do not receive an incentive - one can see that the name remained.

Being able to play blackjack well is a skill that one acquires with practice. In the past, practicing to play blackjack was difficult as casinos are few and far between. Also, the game could be costly at the beginning. However, with time, and the advances in technology, online blackjack hit the web and with it came the ability to play many card games, including blackjack, free of charge. Today, most players can go to any internet blackjack site on the web and opt to play for free, and work towards improving their game.
